St. Mary’s Gardens

Welcome to St. Mary’s Gardens

St. Mary’s Gardens is a small Cardiff County Council Park in Old Church Road, Whitchurch. It occupies the site of Whitchurch’s original Church and Graveyard. The half-acre plot was transformed into a miniature arboretum by the City in the early 1970s after it had been more or less abandoned for seventy years.

In this busy suburb its trees and shrubs offer a quiet, green oasis with much of historical as well as botanical interest.

It is supported by a Society of Friends which organises a group of Volunteers who work regularly in the Gardens when Covid restrictions allow, under the supervision of a Community Park Ranger. The Friends also raise funds through grants and donations for specific projects.
