Getting to St. Mary’s Gardens

Getting to St. Mary’s Gardens

Pedestrian access is available from the main shopping street of Whitchurch (Merthyr Road) along Old Church Road – not to be confused with its continuation, Church Road, on the corner of which stands the “new “ Victorian Church. This makes a useful landmark as does The Plough pub which stands on the corner of Merthyr Road and Old Church Road. Walk along Old Church Road until you arrive at The Fox & Hounds pub. The entrance to the Gardens is almost directly opposite.

The following buses have stops in Merthyr Road:
Cardiff City Buses from the City Centre: 24. More details from: https://Cardiffbus.com
Stagecoach Buses: 132 (Maerdy), 26 (Blackwood), 136 (Creigiau)
The following Stagecoach bus from Cardiff to Merthyr stops near Tyn-Y-Parc Road on Northern Avenue: X4. The western end of Tyn-Y-Parc Rd. leads into Old Church Rd. More details from https://stagecoachbus.com>south-wales

Cars travelling towards the City centre along the A470 (Northern Avenue) can access Old Church Rd. by turning right at the junction with Tyn-Y-Park Rd. Those travelling away from the City centre should turn left at the same junction. Parking is available at The Fox & Hounds car park courtesy of the landlord.

Whitchurch is served by two stations. Valley Line trains stop at the Llandaff station in Llandaff North, which is about ¾ of a mile walk from St. Mary’s Gardens.
Coryton line trains stop at Coryton Station (the terminus) which is a very similar distance from the Gardens.
Services are operated by Transport for Wales. For details go to: https://tfwrail.wales/
